I've just got my pc set up for some recording.I've heard that you should keep your recording software and data seperate from your system files.I created an extended partition to do this and installed sonar 2.0 no problem, but I have two patches to upgrade from sonar 2.0 to 2.1 then to 2.2xl,when I try to install the patches it says that it can't because sonar isn't there in the first place. It's got me baffled, does anyone know what the problem is?

Jimmy.

Yes it is best to separate programs from data. Better yet, is if you have them on separate disks. Sonar should be installed with your other programs. In any case, my guess is the following: When you installed Sonar the first time, it suggested a place to install it (C:\Cakewalk\Sonar). Then maybe you changed the location to D:\Cakewalk\Sonar. Did your patch ask you to locate where Sonar was installed or did it assume C:\Cakewalk\Sonar. Maybe with the patch, you have to point it to where you actually installed Sonar.

Hope that solves your problem. But believe me, once you get the software working, you will have a host of other challenges learning to do cool stuff with it!

regards,

brian

Thanks for the help Brian.I've decided to leave Sonar where it is and just put my recorded files on a seperate partition for now.I suppose it would be best for me to get another disk like you said, would I have to install another operating system on it or could it just hold the data files?

Regards,

Jimmy.
