I have learned a lot about the art of recording guitar over the past few years and in this article I am going to share with you some of my valuable lessons learned. I will go over the basic recording process and recommend various pieces of gear needed for recording. Having recorded using a variety of techniques, I am going to talk about the method that has worked best for me - the old fashioned approach of sticking a mic in front of a speaker! I have tried recording direct using preamps designed for that purpose and I have even ran the output of power amps into speaker cabinet simulators. Though I achieved pretty good results, nothing has compared to placing a mic in front of a cabinet!
This article is not meant for each and every guitarist. This article is gear'd for the guitarist who wants to record his or her music and play it back through something other than $20 computer speakers. In other words, this article is for the guitarist who is serious about recording. If you are such a guitarist, then let's get right to it!
